During the arrival of spring comes a very interesting creature. Lizards are abundant in the Smokey"s and five species are located in this park. The Blue Tail Skink is one of the most interesting. It has an almost neon glow as it basks on rock seeking warmth and showing off its blue tail. This lizard has very vibrant lines down the length of its back and only its tail has the blue color. The bright blue color is only in the most immature lizards. In the case that this lizard must defend its self it has quite a strategy. It literally sheds its tail and leaves it on the ground. For several moments, the tail is twitching as if it was still there. The tail soon grows back and all is restored. Luckily for us this lizard is not very shy. It routinely sets up camp along side visitors to the park.By now you must be feeling hungry and here is just the place to go, all within a few minutes of both the castle and museum. - Mado Rourkes famous pie factory. Tuck into a cow pie and you will be fed for a week, and don"t forget to wash it down with a couple of "pints" So now the hunger is over and we are on our way to visit a superb Birmingham botanical gardens. Just stroll around unwind and relax, you will see all manor of tropical plants,sugar cane,cocoa,banana and coffee in the tropical house.

Finally, close focusing distance is another feature greatly appreciated by children. Children will have a great time getting a close up look at insects and bugs if they lose interest in what their parents are watching. So if you can track down a suitable binocular that can focus as close as one or two meters, that will be an added bonus.
